About Us

  • Who are we?

We are a group of spiritual seekers and curious students of Vedanta (a philosophy of Hinduism) committed to exploring deeper experiences of life. As one of us said. ‘We like to just hang out’, read spiritual texts and reflect on the teachings. Our reflections are many things - sometimes elevating, sometimes uncomfortable to share and many times just light hearted.

We are from different and diverse backgrounds and cultures but a strong sense of seeking and belonging brings us together.

  • What do we do?

Our primary event is the Vedanta study circle. We meet weekly every Thursday from 7-8 PM MT. The meetup is over zoom and/or at someone’s home. We take turns to read spiritual texts and reflect on the teachings in light of our understanding and life experiences. Currently, we are reading two texts: ‘Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna’ and ‘Karma Yoga’ by Swami Vivekananda.

  • Do I need to (1) Know Vedanta (2) Be initiated into Sri Ramakrishna's tradition (3) Live in Colorado?

    (1) Know Vedanta? - No.

We are all students of Vedanta as well. There are many resources for learning Vedanta and we have compiled a few here - Vedanta Resources

    (2) Be initiated? - No.

Many in the group are not initiated

    (3) Live in Colorado? - No.

We have folks from neighbor states too! And thanks to Zoom location is less of a constraint. Feel free to contact us if you are a sincere seeker looking for a good company to deepen spiritual study, make community and hang out.

  • Is there a specific Vedanta school that we follow?

We follow the tradition of Sri Ramakrishna which is based on the non-dual Vedanta (Advaita Vedanta) of Adi Shankaracharya.

Swami Vivekananda (disciple of Sri Ramakrishna) extensively commented and taught Advaita Vedanta and integrated Shankara’s teachings with that of Sri Ramakrishna.

    Foundational texts of Vedanta are:

    1) Principal Upanishads: 10 in number.

    2) Bhagavad Geeta

    3) Brahma Sutras

  • Our mentors: Swami Sarvadevanandaji and Swami Ishatmanandaji

We are fortunate to be mentored by revered Swami Sarvadevanandaji (Vedanta Society of Southern California) and revered Swami Ishatmanandaji (Vedanta Society of Chicago). Bios here.

Every alternate study circle is a ‘Swami’ session and is graced by Swami ‘S’ or Swami ‘I’.

  • Are we affiliated to Ramakrishna Mission or Vedanta Societies?

No. We are a voluntary group and are fortunate to be guided by our mentors Swamis.
